Terms of Use

Who Operates This Site
rotaryxc.com is operated by ROTARYXC LLC, an Oregon limited liability company, and written by its owner, Rey Garza, a pilot and CFII. ROTARYXC LLC owns the site's courseware and software. Reading the site means you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the site.
These terms cover rotaryxc.com only. A flight school running a licensed instance of this courseware on its own domain operates that instance under its own terms, and nothing here applies to it.
What This Site Is — and What It Is Not
RotaryXC is study material. It is not flight instruction, not ground instruction for credit, and not a substitute for a certificated instructor.
- Using this site does not create an instructor–student relationship, and no endorsement, logbook entry, or training record is issued through it.
- The FAA's own publications and the regulations themselves are the authority — the CFR, the ACS, ACs, and the handbooks. Where this site and a current FAA source disagree, the FAA source is right.
- Regulations, ACs and handbooks change. Every regulatory claim here is checked against its source and dated, but a page you are reading may still be behind a revision. Verify anything you are going to act on.
- Your aircraft's approved flight manual governs your aircraft. Nothing here overrides an RFM, an operator's procedures, or your instructor.
You are responsible for the decisions you make as a pilot. Study material does not transfer that.
Licence to Use the Content
The courseware on this site — the written lessons, glossary, quiz bank, flashcard decks, diagrams, and their arrangement — is original work and is the property of ROTARYXC LLC. It is offered to you under a limited licence:
You may read the site, study from it, take notes, print pages for your own study, and link to any page.
You may not, without a written licence:
- Redistribute, republish, or mirror the content, in whole or in substantial part, in any medium
- Sell it, or include it in anything you sell
- Use it as classroom or ground-school material at a flight school, academy, or training provider — commercial or otherwise
- Systematically download, scrape, or harvest the site in bulk, including for assembling a training corpus
- Remove or alter attribution, or present the material as your own
Quoting a short passage with attribution and a link is fine — that is normal use, not redistribution.
Schools: instructional use is available and is meant to be. See For Flight Schools — a licensed instance ships on your own domain with your branding.
FAA and Third-Party Material
This site quotes and cites FAA regulations, handbooks, Advisory Circulars, and figures. Works of the US government are in the public domain and carry no claim by this site. The licence above covers this site's writing, selection, and arrangement — not the underlying federal source, which you are free to go read. Third-party material appears under its own terms, credited where it is used.
The Tools, and the Data Behind Them
The logbook, XC planner, scanner, and quiz are study aids. They are provided as-is and you should treat their output accordingly.
- Logbook and currency calculators — a convenience, not a legal record. Meeting the requirements of § 61.51 and knowing whether you are current is your responsibility, not the calculator's.
- Frequency scanner and ADS-B traffic — situational awareness only. Not a traffic service, not a clearance service, not for navigation. The data is advisory, has real gaps, and aircraft without ADS-B Out do not appear at all.
- XC planner — a planning aid. Airport data, airspace, and forecast winds come from third-party sources and may be stale or wrong. Plan and file from current official sources.
- Your entries live in your browser. Clearing site data erases them, and there is no server-side copy to restore from. Export anything you care about keeping. See the Privacy Policy.
Acceptable Use
Do not attempt to disrupt the site or the systems it runs on, probe them for vulnerabilities without permission, or place automated load on them beyond normal reading. Do not use the site in violation of any applicable law.
No Warranty
The site and everything on it are provided “as is,” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability. Pages may contain errors and the site may be unavailable without notice.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, ROTARYXC LLC and its owner are not liable for any damages arising from your use of it, or from reliance on anything you read here — including damages relating to flight operations, checkride outcomes, currency, recordkeeping, or lost data. You use this material at your own risk and remain responsible for your own decisions as a pilot.
Changes to These Terms
These terms may be updated as the site changes. The “last updated” date at the top reflects the current version, and continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
